Walking in Summer

Some proposals for hikes. Please use a decent map (1:25000) to judge for yourself how difficult a certain trail might be. Some are very strenuous and require good preparation and equipment. Others are more like a stroll. Also, there is a small cable car to the Vättnerberg (1600 meters a.s.l., 5249ft.) where you can, without great exertion, enjoy the beautiful panorama and mountain meadows. Information about departure-times you find here
Before going on a hike, please inform someone, e.q. at the hotel-reception, about where you want to go and when you plan to be back.

Here (pdf) you find a german decription of 3 not-to-difficult strolls around Vättis. The routes are marked with coloured triangles, starting in the village centre.

To get a general idea, the walks have been marked on the schematic map .

  1. Vättis — Kunkels-pass (or further to the Ringelspitz-cabin) — Vättis or Tamins (Details (in German, sorry))
  2. Vättis — Calanda — Vättis (or further to Haldenstein)
  3. Vättnerberg (with cable car) — Drachenloch — Vättis
  4. Vättis — Dunkler Stein — Vättis
  5. Vättis — Stelli — Pfäfers (taking the bus back)
  6. Hike around the Calfeisen-valley starting at St. Martin or the Gigerwald-dam
  7. Vättis — Gigerwald-dam (taking the bus back)

North of Vättis, there are 6 kilometers (3.8miles) of prepared cross country ski trail; south of Vättis there even are 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) prepared.

Snow shoe hiking is, of course, possible in different degrees of difficulty. Please, always pay attention to the weather and the possibility of avalanges.
In a quiet snowy landscape, your might encounter some wild animals like mountain goats.
